Sad news on the blue tit front, the female left the eggs at about 5.30pm yesterday and has not returned. There has been no sign of either of them this morning.
January 2006 - Frankie & Mel are starting up an allotment occasionally helped by their husbands, Nick & Steve. The plan is to grow lots of veg and some flowers. Nick and Steve want to wear smocks, smoke pipes and drink cider... Allotment 21 will end in January 2007 when we hope to move house. www.facebook.com/frankiesgardendiary

Hello,,,,,,,,,any news on the bluetits,,,,,,,,,?
Hi Julie,
We think the female must be dead as there has been no sign of her since the weekend and the eggs have been left unattended. The male was in the garden calling her yesterday to no avail. There has been a sparrowhawk around recently and there are other cats that come into our garden... It is really sad but Spouse pointed out that it would have been far worse if the chicks had hatched and we had to watch them suffer.
So sad to hear. Spouse is right though. We had some wind here last night or today and we found the robin nest on the ground when we came home tonight. It wasn't looking too stable this weekend anyway. There was one dead baby & no other eggs so that must have been it. I will see about adding some ledge style nesting boxes these types of birds like (open on part of the sides and all of the front) to encourge more stable nesting places. This is mother nature we are observing, I guess.
thats so sad,
