Sunday 24th September - The Guardian

A big thank you to Minky for pointing out that Allotment 21 was listed in the Guardian Green Pages yesterday. On receiving the email post pub last night, I could have either:
1. Reflected that there are some much better blogs than this (take a look at the links on the right) and there are undoubtedly a lot of much better allotments (again - click on the links).
2. Copied and emailed the article to everyone I know while informing Spouse that he is married to a Green Gardening Guru.

Can I have a badge as well?

Congratulations on your well deserved fame.

Interested in your comments yesterday, via Culpepper, on 'windy' fennel. David Douglas, botanist & plant collector extraordinaire, commented on aspects of the native American diet on the Pacific Northwest coast as follows, May 1st, 1825:

"Phalangium quamash roots [a bulb commonly known as Camass] form a great part of the native's food. When eaten in a large quantity they occasion bowel complaints. .... assuredly they produce flatulence; when in the Indian hut I was almost blown out by strength of wind".

I followed Douglas' journeys in the USA a few years ago and, barely 20 miles upstream from Fort Vancouver on the Columbia River, where Douglas was based, remains the town of Camas. I didn't enquire about the state of their bowels.

Hi, well done!
Your blog is different to others. Its short but punchy, full of interesting bits of info but above all amusing. I like the pictures, the slide show and the way you do your links. (I keep asking hubby to show me how to do it) If I want to be cheered up, I always take a look at your blog, I particularly like the bits about your sister!
