Friday 15th December - Garlic

Hooray! After waiting for weeks, my garlic has started to emerge. I think I will also order some more of the Solent Wight garlic which we planted in late January and which we are still eating now. The house move is scheduled to be approx 3 weeks into the New Year which means I should be able to get an onion bed prepared in time.

A Jan. move and then you'll be ready to go! Not even missing much of a gardening beat. I have some garlic bulbs then didn't get them planted in the wet Nov/Dec yet. If you planted in Jan. maybe I'll go ahead and get them in the ground when I do get a chance.

Well the Garlic Farm said that this type could go in later and even though we had some rust, the cloves were a decent size. I cooked with some yesterday so they really do store for a few months as well. Good luck!

If you can't get a good planting window stick them in the fridge for two or three weeks. That way they get the cold treatment they need in order to do well (vernalisation)

I'm glad yours have only just shown - I didn't realise that the cold spell will snap them into growth (being new to veg growing!). Thought i'd killed them off! Good luck with the house move!

I just want to say what a beutiful photo that was. It made me smile, when everything in the earth this time of year seems to be dying. Life. Thanks
